Quick update: ISMAR video

Hey everyone, Have managed to catch a quick break and as such, I’ve decided to upload the teaser video we presented as ISMAR 2011 for our poster session. Given the recent progress and developments we have made in the past few months, we will be able to post a more detailed video once we clear [...]

Updates long overdue

Hey everyone, I’ve finally managed to schedule in some time to update the blog. Unlike previous blog updates (which were little more than changes to the front-end template), I’ve decided to start from scratch and transfer the content to this new incarnation. This was necessary as the old site had some obsolete, modified code that [...]

Project Jupiter – Initialization sequence activated

Hey Everyone, I’ve decided to start a new personal project called “Project Jupiter”. My goal for this project is to create an inexpensive augmented reality-enabled cyborg suit. Quite lofty and ambitious, I agree, but I am confident that we have reached a point where a system like this is quite doable. Surprisingly, I was inspired [...]

Quick blog post – Spatial Augmented Reality in Sacramento

Hey Everyone, Pardon my absence, but for the past month I’ve either been traveling, moving to and fro New York to Sacramento, CA, busy with my new internship at Intel while at the same time working on my research project. While I’ll elaborate on these adventures in upcoming blog posts (as well as update and [...]

Beyond the Surface – More Videos

Hello everyone! We’ve updated the tracking system of Beyond the Surface. Right now, we’re using NaturalPoint’s Optitrack trackers. These trackers triangulate the positions of markers placed on rigid bodies. The benefit of this tracking technology is that it doesn’t require for the camera to recognize any markers. Thus, we are able to get very close [...]

The Eternal City and me

Warning: the following post has absolutely nothing to do with AR. Rather, it has more to do with my own reality that has been augmented by some knowledge ;-D

Considering that right now I’m in the midst of temporary relocating to California, wrapping up research and packing, it seems rather insane to sit down and write a blog post. However, when the Muse speaks, I’ve learned that it is important to listen and, at the very least, make notes.

New post about previous travel

The contents of this post aren’t exactly new, novel, nor really AR related. If anything, it’s more VR, and even then, we might be stretching it.

I share this because, in my opinion, it is very cool.

Last year, I was fortunate enough to visit Ireland once again. This time around, as I was staying in County Ennis, I made sure to see the Cliffs of Moher.

It is a place of breathtaking beauty that nature saw fit to share with the Irish. I hope that the following picture captures some of the essence of what I saw.

Recent Travels – CHI 2010

Last week, I attended the Computer Human Interaction (CHI 2010) conference in Atlanta, GA. For those who don’t follow the Human-Computer Interaction community, this conference showcases the best research done in how users can interact, control and manipulate the information presented by computers. In all, the topics presented by each paper were vast and varied. Unfortunately, there was no way I could partake in all the papers and courses presented. As such, I wish to share my highlights of CHI2010:

Beyond the Surface – First Video

This is the first video of Beyond the Surface. The video shows a model of the World Trade Center complex synchronized to Virtual Earth content, as displayed on the Microsoft Surface. We are using ALVAR markers to register our models and a Head-Worn Display connected to a GoblinXNA client. All synchronization is done via WiFi. [...]

Beyond the Surface – Project Description

This project outlines the progress of the development of several multi-modal, multi-user interfaces for use in urban planning and architectural visualizations. It will utilize as a central, interactive display the Microsoft Surface, which serves as a communal area where data can be shared among several users. We will also utilize mobile devices, such as smartphones [...]
